Hood Mock Up

One of my many purchases at Hershey in 2021 was an original (?) low-style hood for the car as I didn't get one with the body.

Below shows temporary storage of the hood on the chassis. I am also using this time to try to finesse the fit to the firewall and radiator. The radiator is less than ideal for this situation as the tank looks like someone played "football" with it. But with a tiny bit of persuasion with a rubber mallet, I should be able to get it to conform.

As we can see, the hood does not sit square. I am considering removing the hinge rods and tweaking each individual section to the shape it needs to be. The driver's side needs more tweaking than the passenger side.

Going along hand in hand with adjusting the hood and cowl, is the adjustment of the front body sill mount. The Body Sills in this picture were made by a previous owner and are close but not quite. This notch that the PILLARS COUPE sits in is too big according to measurements taken from the original in another photo just below this one.

Here is the driver's side Body Sill. This is the only original from the car that survives in a condition to be used as a pattern. The passenger side is too far deteriorated. Several clues can be determined from this one photo: PILLARS COUPE notch size; front Body Mount to frame location; HINGE PILLAR attachment location; middle Body Mount bracket location; permanent floorboard section placement; removable floorboard placement. The amount that the section of PILLARS COUPE juts out from the notch also tells us that there is a nailing strip that goes between the notch and the HINGE PILLAR attachment bracket. This is also confirmed with the remains of four screw holes in the Body Sill edge (an edge which is angled slightly towards the frame of the car).

Here we have a pattern made for the front Body Mount. This one piece required the measurement of no less than three different cars to arrive at this specific size. Even though the Sedan body was made by at least two manufacturers, the dimensions are reasonably close to one another. I am grateful to the Model T Ford owners who allowed access to their cars for this purpose.

Also in this photo you can see the passenger side front Body Mount as well as part of the strip that runs parallel with the frame in the middle of the car from the rear seat box to the front floorboards. And just a glimpse of the roof rails.
