Another project which seemed fairly straight-forward was the passenger folding seat. This seat bolts to the floor and is folded up and out of the way so the driver and other passengers can get in the car.
Let's begin by disassembly. First, I removed the rotting upholstery.
I then repaired any springs that needed it and painted them with rust converter.
Following that, I removed the hardware and assessed the wood. It was tongue and groove boards glued together. Each board was laminated like plywood.
I drew a paper pattern based on the overall dimensions of the original wood and cut a seat bottom to attach the seat spring cushion to out of plywood sheet the same thickness.
I re-attached the hardware.
I have seen these restored multiple ways in other people's cars. I have photos gleaned from the internet of about 1 dozen Center Door Sedans in various states of repair. Some show this type of construction, others show the same construction as the driver's seat.
