What to do first...and how to do it.

After the "Center Door" came to live at my house, my next plan of action was to determine what parts of the body wood were actually there and what was not. It was also a time to reflect upon which pieces of wood could be salvaged and which pieces would need replacing.

The first part was easy. I had diagrams of the interior wood pieces from the Ford Parts Catalog for the year of the car. This would tell me the name of each piece and it's location in the body skeleton.

The second part became painfully obvious.

These are the front pillars of the body, or as listed in the parts book PILLARS (COUPE). They are where the windshield and instrument dash attach and form the front structural part of the car. They can be part of a sub-assembly for the quarter panel which includes the HINGE PILLAR (both sides) and the front quarter windows.

The pillars needed total replacement. I am not a carpenter. I am at best, an assembler. I can build small wooden pieces if necessary, but these were beyond my capabilities.

The largest problem with this particular type of Model T is...there are no body wood kits for it anywhere on the planet by any manufacturer. The closest is a wood kit for the roof, and that isn't even made correctly.

I was peripherally aware of a restorer who had done one or more of these cars, and reached out to him. He said he could make new ones.

Above is the fruit of his labors. And I must say, they are nice.

Other items that needed immediate attention were the ROCKERS.

As you can see, they are in sad shape. But, with the help of my contact, new ones were made.

They will take a small amount of tweaking and should work fine.

Other wooden pieces needed help also...that's for another post.
